NEW YEAR WALK Report
3 January 2018

Despite leaden skies and persistent rain, 20 intrepid ESC members, friends and three dogs assembled at the appointed place and time for a New Year Walk on the Stansted estate.

We set off in good heart, following our leader’s hi-vis jacket as it moved ahead into the murk.  A drop in wind speed enabled the deployment of assorted umbrellas and although the terrain varied between hard standing, sodden grass, slippery mud and large puddles it was all cheerfully conquered by our hard-core walkers.

A photo opportunity and “Quality Street” stop at the two-mile point, before five of our number took the shorter route back to the car park and the remainder ploughed their way through the avenues between the trees to complete the 3.8 mile circular route.   A quick drive home to dry off and change before assembling back at the Club for a well deserved Buffet Brunch, where we found the remainder of our “walkers” with lots of good reasons for not turning out in the rain.

Over 60 of us enjoyed a very convivial New Year’s Day lunchtime in our excellent Club.  Many thanks to the kitchen team who gave us great food and good service despite some of them serving at the New Year’s Eve party the night before. And a special thank you to Liz Spencer who wore her hi-vis jacket with style.

Happy New Year!
