CENTENARY SPEED CHALLENGE
Sunday 16 June 2019
Report & photos

With yet more high winds forecast for race day, I decided whilst setting up the planned '7 Buoy Challenge' on Saturday that we needed a secondary plan. The ‘Speed Challenge’ was born!

True to expectations, Sunday’s weather proved too windy for the 7 Buoy Challenge, so the Speed Challenge was on!  Entrants had to sail as fast as they could between two laid marks in front of the Club – which turned out to be great fun for spectators and participants alike.

As organisers, Kate and I supplied chocolate bars and sweets to everyone at the informal non-prizegiving which followed, including to rescue boat staff.  Having set the fastest time in their Feva,  Eva and Elizabeth were duly presented with extra chocolate! Thanks to helpers Angie and Alex, Kate White, Chris Hodkinson and Karen, Jess Hodkinson and of course the enthusiastic Harriet.

Onlookers in the clubhouse, including the commodore, apparently found the spectacle highly entertaining. It was decided by all that the event was a great success and everyone would like to do it again.
