This year, nine young ESC sailors received grants from the Sir Peter Blake Fund to help to pay for their competitive racing in 2018.

The Trustees were delighted to receive a record number of applications, most from youngsters in the 13-15 age group. At the start of the year, a decision was made to lower the age at which people are eligible to apply, the object being to make grants available as sailors emerged from Martlet training with plans to develop their skills and race competitively in national or international events.

Awards were given this year to:  Megan Farrer, Patrick Bonner, Oscar Pitman, Ben Millard, Gwen Sargent, Thomas Millard, Charlie South, Henry Chandler and Raulf Berry.

The events they are entering include the USA, Irish, French and British Oppie Nationals, the UK Laser Nationals, the RS Aero Worlds, and the Laser Radial Youth Worlds.

Thousands of pounds have been distributed in grants to more than 60 young ESC sailors since the Fund was set up in 2002, following the tragic death Sir Peter Blake, the celebrated New Zealand ocean racer who had made his home in Emsworth for over 30  years.
