August 2017

You can tell that the kids have finished school just by looking at the weather! Just a few weeks ago we were all sweltering and now we’re all soaking, but did that stop many of our Juniors getting out and racing this week?? I don’t think so!

Well done to all of the Juniors for getting out on the water and making it another great event. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered for Safety cover (plus ESSC for providing additional cover) and shore duties. A special big Thank you to Sam Tweedle and Hugh Watson for putting the event together and doing all the hard work behind the scenes to make sure it ran smoothly.

I will be looking for someone to co-ordinate the event for next year, if you would like to put your name forward please contact me.

So, on to our next big event. Children On Water Week from 7 to 11 August. The weather is going to be fab so bring your sun cream (let’s hope so anyway!!)

So far we have 66 children signed up. Our club Bahia’s and Vision will be helmed by some of our AI and DI volunteers, if your child would like to go in one of these, spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If the weather is poor then priority for these places will be given to children over the age of 7 who have already done some sailing training. This will be primarily for safety. If you have younger children that you would like to take out on your own boat but join in the activities on and off water you are more than welcome. Registering your children will ensure they are on our tally list and we will provide the safety cover they need on the water.

Here is the itinerary for the week, and more details will be sent in the next few days to the people who have registered.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

There are going to be courses for all levels: Mill Pond for beginners and those with RYA level 1, Improver Martlets venturing out on the harbour (those with level 2 or working on gaining level 2), Advanced Martlets for those working towards RYA level 3 or for practising their level 3 skills, Start Racing for those who want to learn racing skills (for those with RYA level 3), and Double Hander Training.

Please book early as courses will be able to be booked by friends who are non-members if we have places available (probably from the beginning of August!) so please don’t leave things to the last minute as you may be disappointed.
